During his four years in the military, Washington Navy Yard shooter Aaron Alexis “developed an orthopedic problem and ringing in the ears, according to the Veterans Affairs Department.”
He was determined to be 30% disabled and ultimately collected $395 a month in veteran’s disability payments.
There is no record of his having sought treatment through the VA for his alleged mental health issues.
He enrolled in VA health care in February 2011. Records show he never sought an appointment with a mental health specialist. He also canceled or failed to show up for primary care appointments and claims evaluations examinations he had scheduled at VA Medical Centers.
