DETROIT (WWJ/AP) – A man pleaded guilty on Monday to a charge of disinterring a body after he allegedly stole his father’s corpse from a Detroit cemetery with the goal of bringing him back to life. Vincent Bright (pictured above) pleaded guilty to avoid prison time and faces sentencing September 24.
Bright will receive probation with credit for time served and the judge ruled that he could be released on bail, according to his defense attorney. By pleading guilty, Bright avoided a potential 10 year prison sentence that could have accompanied a conviction for disinterring a body.
On January 14, Bright removed the body of his 93-year-old father from a Gethsemane Cemetery just hours before it was to be buried and stored it in a freezer in his home on Detroit’s east side.
Authorities said that Bright is a religious man who was hoping to resurrect his father.
