Today Darrell Issa sent a letter to Lois Lerner on behalf of the Oversight Committee requesting copies of any emails sent to a private account labeled “Lois Home.” Here is an excerpt from the letter which was first noted by Ed Morrissey at Hot Air:
The Committee on Oversight and Government Reform continues to investigate the Internal Revenue Service’s inappropriate treatment of certain applicants applying for tax-exempt status. Through the course of the investigation, we have learned that you sent documents related to your official duties from your official IRS e-mail account to an msm.com e-mail account labeled “Lois Home.” This raises some serious questions regarding your use of a non-official e-mail account to conduct official business…
[…]
To understand the extent to which you may have used a non-official e-mail account for official purposes and whether information exists in this/these account(s) that would assist the Committee’s investigation, we request that you produce all documents and communications housed in your msm.com account or any other non-official e-mail account for the period January 1, 2008, to the present referring or relating to your official duties or the official duties of any other employee at the Internal Revenue Service or any other government agency.
The conclusion of the letter sets a deadline of August 27th for turning over the requested documents. The part about “any other government agency” is important given what we’ve heard about contacts between the FEC and the IRS.
