Wisdom from a Real Housewife

In response to Assimilation requires communication:

One of my favorite moments from last season’s The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills was when Yolanda Foster, a former model and wife to songwriter and composer David Foster, encouraged a worker in her home to learn English.  Some painted it as a snooty “speak English” lecture, but Yolanda, who was born in Holland said to the Spanish-speaking man, “You’re in America now – they speak English here.  You know when I come to America, I don’t speak no English, and all I know how to say is ‘Please’ and ‘Thank you,’ ‘Yes,’ ‘No.’  But every night before I go to sleep I studied – so you do the same.”

I’m not ashamed to admit that I watch all of the Real Housewives shows (except OC).  Yolanda is kind of refreshing.  On her blog she wrote that becoming a U.S. citizen “is one of the most meaningful achievements in my life.”  She also blogs about food, travel, living well, and keeping romance in your marriage.  She recognizes that the drama between the other women on the show is silly.  She talks about the joy she gets from keeping a good home and being a good wife.  She and her husband have held fundraisers in their home for Republican candidates. 

Yolanda is pretty much my Oprah.
