BANGKOK, Thailand – Police say an intoxicated American tourist was killed Wednesday after he insisted on singing with the band in a bar at Ao Nang beach in Krabi province. Police Lt. Col. Jongrak Pimthong said that 51-year-old Bobby Ray Carter, Jr. died at a hospital after he was allegedly stabbed in the chest with an iron rod by one of the band’s musicians.
Authorities said that the Texas native took to the stage and began singing with the band but tensions arose when he refused to surrender the mic. to other customers.
Krabi city police chief Col. Taksin Pochakorn said,”Witnesses said Carter got angry when the band played ‘Hotel California’ instead of the song he requested, and he refused to step down.”
According to police, the band stopped playing and a furious argument broke out between the musicians, Carter and Carter’s 27-year-old son. The argument escalated into a fight outside the bar where Carter was allegedly stabbed.
Three band members were arrested and charged with causing death by physical attack.
