President Obama took a swipe at Kim Kardashian and Kanye West in an interview with Amazon Singles.
The President was comparing the pop culture when he was growing up versus America in 2013. According to Nikki Schwab, Obama said when he was young, kids didn’t feel like they were short-changed by the country even though they didn’t have much:
“The reason was because the American dream involved some pretty basic stuff,” Obama said, ticking off a home, a job, education and healthcare. “But I don’t think people went around saying to themselves, ‘I need to have a 10,000 square-foot house.”
But now, the culture has augmented that dream, the president said.
The message seems to be that young people shouldn’t strive for success and the material rewards our society has to offer for the highest economic achievers, or, Kanye and Kardashian should just stay more low-key about their wealth.
