LANCASTER, Pa. – On Thursday afternoon, 5-year-old Jocelyn Rojas was playing in her front yard, when authorities believe she was kidnapped by a man who lured her into his car by offering ice cream. Her disappearance triggered an extensive, but unsuccessful search by neighbors and police…unsuccessful until two teenage boys took to their bicycles to help locate the missing girl.
Temar Boggs, 15, and his friend are being hailed heroes after they joined the search and spotted Jocelyn in a sedan about a half-mile away. The driver attempted to elude the boys:
“Every time we’d go down the street, he’d turn back around, and then … we’ll follow him,” Temar told CNN affiliate WGAL.
They pursued the alleged kidnapper for 15 minutes until the driver apparently gave up. According to Temar, that’s when “he [the suspect] stopped at the end of the hill and let her out, and she ran to me and said that she needed her mom,”
Police are describing the suspect as a white male between 50 and 70 years old. WGAL reported that he was wearing green shoes, green pants and a red-and-white striped shirt, and walked with a limp. He was last seen driving a reddish-purple or maroon car with round taillights.
Temar reflected on the events saying, “I just feel like I did something very accomplishing today.”
Jocelyn’s grandmother agreed. “He’s our hero. There is just no words to say,”
