Rep. Louis Gohmert (R-TX) is not known for mincing his words, especially when it comes to criticism of the Obama Administration. This morning while guest-hosting with my on “Mornings on the Mall” on WMAL in Washington, Gohmert voiced strong opposition to the President signaling that he is willing to meet with The Taliban as part of the ongoing discussions over the withdrawal of US troops in Afghanistan:
“They do not admire weakness or sucking up, and in fact, they’ve used that to recruit people. ‘Look, they’re a paper tiger, they’re scared of us. We’ve defeated them, they’re pulling out,'” said Gohmert, who dismissed White House assertions that the talks will only take place if the Taliban agrees to renounce its past practices of aggression.
“There were no preconditions. In fact, one of the leaders of the Taliban was released from Guantanamo for humanitarian purposes, [and] he’s been over there on national television saying, ‘Hey, we’re going to be back in charge. Everybody knows the U.S. is lost. They’re begging us to come negotiate.’ That’s sucking up to the Taliban, to let them be in that kind of position,” said Gohmert.
