TACOMA, Wash. — A Puyallup woman was arraigned Monday in Pierce County superior court for allegedly trying to kill her 3-month-old baby because she believed the baby was trying to kill her.
According to probably cause documents, the baby’s father said that after arriving home, the suspect, Anna Murphy (pictured above) told him she had thrown the baby down. He immediately called 911 after seeing blood on and inside the baby’s mouth.
In an interview with police officers, Murphy said that she thought the baby was trying to kill her, so she in turn threw the baby down and tried to kill her. The suspect subsequently went on a bizarre rant saying that “she was having her first exorcism” and threw her child on the ground because she thought the baby was “traveling to another dimension and was trying to save her.”
According to police, after being taken to a hospital for evaluation, Murphy bizarrely claimed that she was being raped and that she was in a house of mirrors with Hitler.
Murphy was eventually transported to jail and faces charges of second-degree child assault.
She appeared in court wearing a suicide prevention garment. Her bail was set at $150,000.
