GARFIELD, N.J. (CBSNewYork) — According to police, a burglar got the most of the facilities offered by the Garfield Boys and Girls Club when he smashed windows, busted up a vending machine, trashed the club’s office, and then followed it up with a swim, but not before indulging in what was described as a “huge chunk of cake.”

21-year-old Norman Girdley Jr., was arrested and charged with criminal mischief and drug possession following the alleged overnight rampage, which was captured on surveillance video.

The club’s executive director Paul Casey was optimistic about the potential for forgiveness.

“If there’s any role that we as an organization can play in turning him into a productive member of society, that’s something that we would want to do,” Casey said.

The partially eaten cake was replaced by a donated cake for all to enjoy.
