Rep. Michele Bachmann (R – MN) announced early Wednesday morning she will be retiring next year.
Bachmann pointed out that her decision to not run for re-election had nothing to do with the current ethics probe into her former presidential campaign or her ability to be re- elected.
“Be assured, my decision was not in anyway influenced by any concerns about my being re-elected to Congress. I’ve always in the past defeated candidates who were capable, qualified, and well funded. And I have every confidence that if I ran, I would again defeat the individual who I defeated last year, who recently announced that he is once again running,” Bachmann said, continuing, “And rest assured, this decision was not impacted in anyway by the recent inquiries into the activities of my former presidential campaign or my former presidential staff.”
Bachmann explained she ran for office again after her run for the presidency to keep her seat in GOP hands.
