Stories that say the Administration knows who the Benghazi masterminds are, but won’t lift a finger to “bring them to justice,” grow louder by the day. Here’s the latest from the Associated Press:
The U.S. has identified five men who might be responsible for the attack on the diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya, last year, and has enough evidence to justify seizing them by military force as suspected terrorists, officials say. But there isn’t enough proof to try them in a U.S. civilian court as the Obama administration prefers.
The men remain at large while the FBI gathers evidence. But the investigation has been slowed by the reduced U.S. intelligence presence in the region since the Sept. 11, 2012, attacks, and by the limited ability to assist by Libya’s post-revolutionary law enforcement and intelligence agencies, which are still in their infancy since the overthrow of dictator Col. Moammar Gadhafi.
I guess all the drones are busy right now. You know what else slowed up that FBI investigation? Obama and his minions lying through their teeth about a “spontaneous video protest” to keep his re-election campaign humming along. That insulted the hell out of the new Libyan government, which knew it was a terror attack all along.
There’s the down side of this whole “trying terrorists in civilian court” idea: you’ve got to let them walk around loose for months, planning God knows what, while you build an airtight criminal case. (At this point, what “evidence” are U.S. authorities still gathering?)
Say, if the U.S. intelligence presence in the region is “reduced” since the September 2012 attacks, do you suppose there’s a correspondingly increased risk that one or more of these five terror masterminds might slip the leash and get away? Especially if they read the U.S. papers to find out what the Obama Administration is up to, the same way President Obama does?
Exit question: do you suppose the Administration might not be eager to bring these chaps into an American courtroom, where their lawyers will be able to request all sorts of embarrassing information in the course of preparing their defense?
