Chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Darrell Issa announced that he has issued a subpoena for ARB Chairman Thomas Pickering. Pickering is to appear for a deposition to answer for the Accountability Review Board report on Benghazi.
Pickering has agreed to testify publicly but refused to participate in a transcribed interview before his public testimony. The deposition will take place on Thursday, May 23 at 10am.
“The ARB worked behind closed doors,” the letter states “It did not record its interviews. No transcripts of ARB interviews exist. Even now, months after the ARB report was released, the ARB’s investigative process has remained opaque.”
Issa went on to write to Pickering:
“While I am very much committed to having you testify publicly and appreciate your newfound willingness to do so, I was disappointed that you are attempting to limit the Committee’s understanding of the Accountability Review Board by refusing to participate in a voluntary transcribed interview prior to testifying publicly,” the letter from Chairman Issa to Ambassador Pickering states. “In light of your continuing refusal to appear voluntarily for a transcribed interview, however, I have found it necessary to issue a subpoena to compel your appearance at a deposition.”
