The battle for the 2016 Senate is heating up as Rep. Bill Cassidy will announce today he is running for the Louisiana Senate seat held by Mary Landrieu.
Cassidy is a doctor from Baton Rouge who previously served in the state Senate. Louisiana doesn’t have a typical primary system, instead using a jungle primary where all candidates are up for a vote with the top two candidates heading to a run-off.
Louisiana’s other Senator, David Vitter is expected to run for governor when Bobby Jindal is term-limited out. Vitter has not made any endorsement for Landrieu’s seat yet, as other candidates might throw their hats in the ring. Two tea-party favorites, Former Congressman Jeff Landry and Rep. John Fleming could enter the race.
Keep your eye on Louisiana.
