In response to Deb:
Seen from the outside they are a remarkably insular group. There can’t be more than two dozen of them who constantly create their own conventional wisdom which is always, of course, amenable to progressive goals.
I don’t think Marvel Team-Up is the right comic book metaphor for what they do. It’s teamwork but a much more familiar and reliable form of it. A better analog might be the fastball special. For comics noobs, that’s a battle tactic where one hero uses his powers to throw another character at an enemy.
Anyway, after seeing how they work the last couple weeks on sequester and Woodward and Keller I’m impressed and repulsed at the same time. What they do works even if it often should not.
