In response to Video game sin tax? Where’s the sin?:
As an avid gamer, I’ve been sinning since I first chased Pac-Man around the square board.
What’s really missing in the discussion on video games are the lessons taught in the imaginary adventures.
You learn:
- to manage your inventory and stock goods before the need arrises to use them
- to manage your money and save for the gold plated vest because it’s better quality
- teamwork and patience, especially playing in an online community
- to not just follow the rules but to also search for invaluable objects well off the suggested track
- and yes, to be humble when you find out you just got killed three times in a row by a girl
Not to mention, games like Call of Duty and Battlefield really pay a lot of respect to our soldiers, past and present. And games like Gears of War and Bioshock can be effective tools in explaining the results of Big Government programs to the younger generation.
Using the culture effectively would really be a sin….
