It’s official, J.J. Abrams is set to direct Star Wars Episode VII. Here’s what film producer and President of Lucas Films, Kathleen Kennedy told Starwars.com:
“It’s very exciting to have J.J. aboard leading the charge as we set off to make a new Star Wars movie. J.J. is the perfect director to helm this. Beyond having such great instincts as a filmmaker, he has an intuitive understanding of this franchise. He understands the essence of the Star Wars experience, and will bring that talent to create an unforgettable motion picture.”
This development comes on the hills of even more good news for Star Wars loyalists. Legendary composer John Williams says he wants to compose the score for Episode VII. And if that doesn’t get your midi-chlorians dancing, Mark Hamill, Luke Skywalker himself, recently said that he, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Billy Dee Williams and Anthony Daniels are all in talks to appear in Star Wars Episode VII.
I think it’s safe to say that this has been a good week for Star Wars fans. And while there’s still a lot that remains to be seen, the future of the Star Wars franchise appears to be in good hands.
