Wow. I Didn’t Realize SNL Had Fallen So Low

In response to I Resent Your Politicization of the Issue. Saturday Night Live Is Just Awful in All Respects.:

I wasn’t kidding when I said I never watch it. I think the last semi-funny skit I saw on SNL was “D*** in a Box”, and that might have been on YouTube, not actually on my TV.

So forgive me if I thought that it was mainly the political skits that were bombing. From the way you describe it, it sounds like SNL, these days would almost be at home on Nickelodeon, complete with the canned laughter. Sad, considering how fine a show it used to be.

Back in the day, almost every sketch was a home-run, (Rosanne Rosannadanna with her hairy armpits, Massive Head-wound Hairy, Pre-Chewed Charlie’s, etc etc.) I never found Chevy Chase’s tripping President Ford to be all that terribly funny. I think you would call that “clapper humor.”

The show had some good years in the eighties and nineties, but started going off the rails at some point in the 2000’s. I guess all good things have to come to an end.
