BuzzFeed BenSmiths McCain & Graham With a Manufactured Equivalence

A few months ago, in order to protect Barack Obama, Ben Smith and his merry band of BenSmithers had a full-fledged meltdown when the Daily Caller released a 2007 video of an Obama speech. “OLD! OLD! OLD!,” they screamed. “Nothing to see here! Move along!”

But in the eyes of BenSmithers, video from 2007 of Obama that hardly anyone had seen is old news. But now, apparently, when it comes to attacking Republicans with a completely manufactured equivalence, video from 2003 is new news!

See how this works?

Senators John McCain and Lindsey Graham expressed continued concerns this week after meeting with Ambassador Susan Rice her comments on high-profile Sunday shows in September about the deadly September 11 attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi.

Both men continued to pledge to block her nomination should she be appointed Secretary of State with Senator McCain saying “she’s not qualified” while accusing Rice of deliberately “misleading the American people.” After meeting with Rice, Graham noted he was “more disturbed now than I was before” adding her appearances on Sunday shows were “disconnected from reality.”

The episode, however, has clear echoes of McCain’s and Graham’s own moment of relaying bad intelligence on Sunday shows based off of a inaccurate conclusion from the intelligence community.

In the 2003 lead up to the Iraq War, McCain and Graham made appearances on Sunday talks shows such as Meet the Press, Fox News Sunday, and Face the Nation were they made the case that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction and would not hesitate to use them.

Did I read that “clear echoes” part correctly?

So if I understand the BenSmithing logic correctly, the thinking goes a little something like this….

1. McCain and Graham going on Meet the Press to educate the public on what the intelligence community’s reporting is the same as….

2. Susan Rice going on all five Sunday shows to completely mislead the American people about what the intelligence community’s reporting.

More proof that rocket scientist and propagandist are not the same thing.
