In its report on David Petraeus’s closed door testimony on the Hill today, CNN writes: [emphasis added]
The former CIA director also is expected to tell the congressional committees that he did develop unclassified talking points in the days after the attack but had had no direct involvement in developing the ones used by Susan Rice, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.
Rice has been under fire for suggesting the attack on the consulate was a spontaneous event spurred by a protest against the anti-Muslim film.
Just now on CNN, morning anchor Carol Costello falsely claimed that Rice told us Libya was “probably” the result of a spontaneous protest.
That is 100% false and near-ridiculous.
Susan Rice did not “suggest” the September 11 anniversary attack on our Libyan consulate was spurred by a video, Rice insisted on it.
n fact, Rice not only insisted on it, she insisted on it to the exclusion of any other theory.
On five Sunday Shows across every news network, a full five days after the attack, Rice hammered home the Administration’s false narrative blaming a YouTube video for the murder of four Americans and went twenty-steps further by stating declaratively that there was absolutely no evidence the attack was premeditated
SUSAN RICE: We do not– we do not have information at present that leads us to conclude that this was premeditated or preplanned. …
SUSAN RICE: Those with extremist ties joined the fray and came with heavy weapons, which unfortunately are quite common in post-revolutionary Libya. And that then spun out of control. We don’t see at this point — signs that this was a coordinated, premeditated attack. Obviously we’ll wait for the results of the investigation and we don’t want to jump to conclusions before then. But I do think it’s important for the American people to know our best current assessment.
This White House doesn’t need anyone’s help in the department of spin, but it looks though CNN is eager to volunteer.
