Conservative-basher Nicolle Wallace has reportedly been axed from The View after just one season as a co-host.
According to a Variety report, Wallace, one of the mainstream media’s favorite Republicans who has gained favor with the media elite by throwing conservatives–especially former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin–under the bus, “underwhelmed ABC bosses by not offering enough dissent about political issues and continually voicing her lack of knowledge about celebrities.”
Variety noted that Wallace’s “hire last season was championed by” Rachel Maddow’s former producer (Maddow’s producer left MSNBC to run The View), who met Wallace when Maddow used her to trash conservatives on her left-wing program. But Breitbart News predicted when she was hired that nobody should “expect the uninspiring Wallace to get the show out of its ratings slump.” Producers should not have expected Wallace to offer much dissent since she often views conservatives in the same negative light as her liberal co-hosts. In fact, Wallace was reportedly hired because Rosie O’Donnell, who left the show earlier in the year due to health reasons, wanted a docile Republican co-host who would not fight back and defend conservatives.
As the report implied, Wallace also lacked the personality to succeed on such a show–it seems like viewers just did not like her and found nothing compelling in her.
When Wallace was hired, Breitbart News prognosticated that she would be “the show’s Brooklyn Brawler,” who “will be the lapdog who praises liberal Republicans the mainstream media love, while taking cheap shots at conservatives to please her producers and co-hosts.” Breitbart News wrote at the time that that formula would be a recipe for disaster even though show’s producers would be “thrilled to exploit her as their useful Republican.”
The show predictably tanked with the conventional and uninteresting Wallace as a co-host. Variety noted that it has been a particularly “difficult year” for The View–ratings have plummeted 16% compared to the same period last year and viewership continues to slide. Wallace did not appear on Wednesday’s edition of the show after learning that she was booted.
Rosie Perez, who was hired along with Wallace, also announced that she is leaving the program. Perez, who campaigned for President Barack Obama, once accused former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani of “incompetence” on 9/11.
The View has reportedly offered Wallace a job as a contributor on the show for next season, but Wallace, who is reportedly “hurt by ABC not asking her to return to the show full time next year,” has not yet accepted the role. Wallace, though, will still bash conservatives on MSNBC, where she is still a contributor.
