President Donald Trump impersonator Alec Baldwin is to co-host a star-studded fundraiser for Democrats running in elections across the country at the home of actress Heather Thomasand Hollywood power-lawyer Skip Brittenham.
Alec Baldwin is co-hosting the fundraiser along with Rashida Jones of Parks and Recreation fame, TV Sitcom legend Norman Lear, Charmed actress and activist Alyssa Milano, and Blackish star Tracee Ellis Ross.
The fundraiser, planned for Thursday night, will unite Brittenham, who’s represented Harrison Ford, Eddie Murphy, and filmmakers Tony and Ridley Scott, with up-and-coming Democratic candidates looking to challenge Republicans from Florida to Arizona.
There has been a “deluge” of Democratic hopefuls running to Hollywood seeking help from big-named stars and power-brokers looking to pour cash into their campaign coffers.
“I don’t think I have ever seen this many candidates coming to town at every level of government — from mayors, statehouses, to senators, from people who have current races to people who are preparing,” Donna Bojarsky, a longtime political consultant and organizer in Los Angeles, told Variety. “This is a new level of activity that never really existed before.”
“This is a critical time, and now you are seeing a deluge,” Bojarsky added.
Jon Vein, the former CEO of MarketShare and a prolific fundraiser and activist, said enthusiasm around Hollywood supporting Democratic candidates has nearly reached a level he hasn’t seen since Barack Obama’s first presidential run.
There are “so many people reaching out, asking how they can write checks, raise checks, volunteer,” Vein said.
Candidates expected to attend the bash include Democratic leader in the Georgia General Assembly who is running to succeed Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal, university professor and Army veteran running David Garcia, who’s taking on Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey; and Tallahassee, Fl., Mayor Andrew Gillum, who’s looking to succeed Gov. Rick Scott.
