J.C. Penney Co. ceased its association with Russell Simmons and pulled his clothing line after the music promoter was accused of sexual misconduct, according to reports.
The department store chain ended its association with Russell Simmons after just over a year of offering the apparel line in about 80 of its 875 locations, the company said in a statement, according to Yahoo! Finance.
“The company decided to discontinue selling Argyleculture in light of the recent allegations,” the Penney spokesperson said in a statement.
The move comes two days after Simmons announced that he was stepping down from several of the companies he helmed after screenwriter Jenny Lumet claimed that the music promoter forced her to have sex in 1991.
HBO also announced that it would remove the producer and businessman’s name from the upcoming stand-up series, All Def Comedy.
The reports of Simmons’ alleged misdeeds also brought actor Terry Crews to reveal that the co-founder of hip-hop record label Def Jam Recordings once told him to “give a pass” to the Hollywood talent agent who Crews says groped him at a Hollywood party.
