Sony Pictures Entertainment released the latest trailer for shark attack thriller The Shallows this week, just in time to play on moviegoers’ deepest fears about sharks as they head to beaches this summer.
The Shallows stars Blake Lively as Nancy, a surfer who looks to have found the perfect stretch of secluded beach for an afternoon session. But when she’s suddenly attacked by a great white shark just 200 yards away from shore, she must use every ounce of resourcefulness she can muster to return to dry land.
Jaume Collet-Serra (Run All Night, Non-Stop) directs off of a screenplay by Anthony Jaswinski (Vanishing on 7th Street). The script for the film was featured in the 2014 Black List, a collection of the best unproduced scripts in the industry.
The trailer’s release comes as 12-foot sharks were spotted this week off the coast of Sunset Beach in the city of Huntington Beach in California. A woman was viciously attacked by a shark in Corona del Mar earlier this month but was expected to survive.
The Shallows is in theaters June 29.
