Elton John called for a boycott of designer clothing brand Dolce & Gabbana over the weekend after its openly gay owners described children born through IVF as “synthetic.” Now, the singer is being joined by other stars who are sharing their contempt for all things D&G on social media.

Iconic business partners Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, who were once involved in a sexual relationship and previously came out against gay marriage, told Panorama Magazine this week: “We oppose gay adoptions. The only family is the traditional one. No chemical offsprings and rented uterus: life has a natural flow, there are things that should not be changed.”
Dolce believes procreation “must be an act of love,” and said: “You are born to a mother and a father – or at least that’s how it should be… I call children of chemistry, synthetic children. Rented uterus, semen chosen from a catalog.”
Gabbana stated: “The family is not a fad. In it there is a supernatural sense of belonging.”
After hearing the news, singer Elton John angrily took to Instagram to defend his two children with partner David Furnish’s:
How dare you refer to my beautiful children as “synthetic”. And shame on you for wagging your judgemental little fingers at IVF – a miracle that has allowed legions of loving people, both straight and gay, to fulfil their dream of having children. Your archaic thinking is out of step with the times, just like your fashions. I shall never wear Dolce and Gabbana ever again. #BoycottDolceGabbana
Now, Ricky Martin, Glee’s Ryan Murphy, Courtney Love, Al Roker, Martina Navratilova, and Victoria Beckham are joining John in his crusade to shun D&G.
Martin, who has twin boys born through a surrogate mother, has jumped aboard John’s boycott and is urging the fashion duo to use their power for “luv.”
Tennis player Martina Navratilova:
Former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham:
The fashion designers previously felt the wrath of the gay community in 2006, after Stefano Gabbana said: “I am opposed to the idea of a child growing up with two gay parents… A child needs a mother and a father. I could not imagine my childhood without my mother. I also believe that it is cruel to take a baby away from its mother.”
