If Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis want to make a sequel to “The Campaign,” the summer comedy that slammed the influence of money in politics, they’ve got great material here.
DreamWorks studio head Jeffrey Katzenberg bundled a grand total of $6.6 million for Barack Obama over the last four years. It appears Katzenberg got plenty of bang for his buck, too.
Katzenberg’s movie studio, Dreamworks, recently finalized a deal to build a studio in Shanghai, China. The nonpartisan Sunlight Foundation notes that Katzenberg’s deal was made possible with help from the Obama administration, which arranged a meeting for Katzenberg with Chinese Vice President and heir apparent Xi Jinping after his White House visit in February. Xi traveled from the White House to Los Angeles to sign the deal with the major Obama donor.
“The Campaign” used the fictitious “Motch brothers,” styled after conservative donors the Kock brothers, to decry the impact big money has on politics. Of course, liberal celebrities aren’t actually against money in politics. They just speak out when conservative donors pry more cash out of their wallets than their liberal peers.
