Singer Elton John’s politics are reliably left of center. But the Rocket Man doesn’t walk in lockstep with his progressive peers.
This is the same entertainer who performed during Rush Limbaugh’s 2010 wedding. And now, John’s speaking out on behalf of former President George W. Bush. John appeared with Matt Lauer on “The Today Show,” and the anchor played a game of political word association with the pop crooner – because that’s more enlightening than hearing what a gifted musician has to say about his craft.
As for George W. Bush, it’s more complicated. John explained: “I have a kind of soft spot for him, in a way, because he was — what he did for AIDS was fantastic. But I’m glad he’s not in power anymore.”
“So for one issue, he was the guy?” Lauer asked.
“Yeah, he was fantastic with AIDS,” John said.
