A poll released on Thursday from Franklin and Marshall College revealed that 56 percent of Pennsylvanians will not vote for Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA) in the 2018 midterm elections.
Rep. Lou Barletta (R-PA) campaign spokesman David Jackson said in a statement on Thursday:
There’s a lot to be optimistic about in this poll for someone challenging a two-term incumbent Senator who has been in statewide office for two decades. In his eighth campaign for statewide office, Casey’s job performance is underwater, 56 percent of voters won’t vote for Casey, and Casey continues to badly lag behind the incumbent governor of his own party, who has only been on the ballot once compared to Casey’s eight times.
“Clearly Bob Casey is vulnerable, and we are confident that as voters get to know Lou and his record of fighting for working families, this race will continue to tighten, and Lou will win,” Jackson added.
The survey suggested that Bob Casey polls at 44 percent, while Barletta has 27 percent, with 28 percent of voters still undecided, despite a heavy sampling from Democrats over Republicans. Roughly 66 percent of voters do not know enough about Barletta to have an opinion in the race.
President Trump has wholeheartedly endorsed Barletta for U.S. Senate. In May, Trump recorded a two-minute robocall for the Pennsylvania Senate Republican primary in May.
Trump charged in the recording, “I need you to go out and vote for my good friend, Lou Barletta, a very special guy.”
Rep. Barletta explained to Breitbart News in an exclusive statement in May that President Trump understands that electing Barletta to the U.S. Senate will help him enact his America Frist agenda.
Barletta told Breitbart News:
President Trump clearly understands how important my campaign against Bob Casey is for advancing his agenda through the Senate. Bob Casey has rejected, resisted, and obstructed our president at every step. One vote in the Senate can make the difference, and the president is committed to helping me win this race.
President Trump noted in his May robocall that Trump served as one of the first congressmen to endorse him in the 2016 Republican presidential primary.
“It took courage for Lou to do that, and I’ll never forget it,” the president said.
In February, the Republican Party of Pennsylvania unanimously backed Barletta for the U.S. Senate.
Vice President Mike Pence, Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA), and dozens of Pennsylvania state lawmakers also endorsed Barletta for the U.S. Senate.
Barletta told Breitbart News in August that if he were in the Senate, he could be “the difference, just that one vote” to repeal Obamacare, secure America’s borders, and stop illegal immigration.
Rep. Barletta said in May that the “American people have run out of patience” with D.C. politicians who push for amnesty of illegal immigrants.
“We should not do anything until we secure the border and guarantee the American people, not DACA and a promise, ending the ability for people to come into the country illegally once and for all,” the Pennsylvania Republican added.
