Michael Bloomberg-funded Everytown for Gun Safety announced Monday that it would be dumping an additional $400,000 into gun control gubernatorial candidate Ralph Northam’s (D) campaign.

They are also dumping $300,000 incumbent Attorney General Mark Herring’s re-election campaign. Herring is so anti-Second Amendment that Gov. Terri McAuliffe (D) with him on concealed carry, saving law-abiding citizens from Herring’s anti-gun machinations.

According to the Washington Post, “Gun control was thrust into the spotlight of the Virginia governor’s race after a gunman killed at least 58 during a country music festival in Las Vegas earlier this month.” But this misses the fact that gun control was already an overarching issue in the race, as exemplified by Everytown’s $1 million in donations in mid-September. They gave $700,000 to Northam and $300,000 to Herring as well.

Nevertheless, Northam used the Vegas attack as an opportunity to renew calls for a ban on “assault weapons” and “high-capacity” magazines. He is also pushing for universal background checks and wants to reinstate Virginia’s one-gun-a-month purchase limit. Northam is pushing these controls even as Democrats on the federal level are backing off gun control for fear of alienating voters during the 2018 mid-term elections.

Everytown is also designating another $90,000 to the state of Virginia. That money is dedicated for outreach to black voters.
