The Tea Party group Alabama Patriots announced their endorsement of Judge Roy Moore in next week’s Alabama GOP Senate primary runoff against establishment-backed Senator Luther Strange.
“In these trying times, we believe GOD has provided men of honor and integrity to stand in the gap for our beloved Alabama and our Christian nation. Judge Roy Moore is the man to replace our friend and fellow Patriot Jeff Sessions as the next United States Senator from Alabama,” the group said in a statement.
“Judge Roy Moore is the only candidate in the race with a proven record of conservative leadership who is renowned for standing up against special interests and the Washington insiders and special interest groups that constitute Washington’s ‘Swamp,'” it continued.
The news followed a string of important endorsements for Moore this week, which include Representative Steve King from Iowa and former South Carolina Senator Jim DeMint, who both backed Moore’s credentials as a principled man.
Moore has received backing from House Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows (R-NC), his initial primary candidate Representative Mo Brooks (R-AL), and leading figures in the populist economic nationalist movement including Sarah Palin, Mike Huckabee, and Ann Coulter.
Despite receiving an endorsement from President Donald Trump, Strange remains the overwhelming choice for the Republican establishment. In recent weeks, the Senate Leadership Fund, a PAC affiliated with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, has flooded the state with a series of false attack ads against Moore’s campaign.
Moore currently leads in polls over Strange. In a recent poll conducted by Raycom News Network-Strategy Research, Moore has a solid 53 percent lead against Strange’s 47 percent, among likely Republican voters.
“It is a privilege to be endorsed by Alabama Patriots,” Moore said in a statement. “Alabama Patriots is one of the oldest and largest Tea Party groups in Alabama and I am proud to have their support. They, along with conservatives across the state, realize that it is imperative that we send a true and honest conservative to the United States Senate, and I am honored to be their candidate.”
