A young mother in Marietta, Georgia, opened fire on Thursday, killing a home invasion suspect while her three small children were at home.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the mother called 911 saying someone “attempted to break into her home and she shot him.” Officers arrived at the resident on Griggs Street to find the suspect deceased. The incident occurred just after 2 a.m.
Marietta police Officer Chuck McPhilamy said the neighborhood is a quiet one and the call about a home invasion was surprising.
The neighbor of the mother who shot the suspect said she was surprised to hear the news as well, but admitted the situation makes her think the makeup of the neighborhood may be changing. She is now thinking about getting her own gun.
The mother’s three children are staying with other family members while the police conduct their investigation.
