Bernie Sanders presidential campaign is threatening legal action against the Democratic National Committee for taking away its access to the national voter database.
The Democratic Party suspended the campaign’s access after it was revealed that Sanders staffers reviewed Hillary Clinton’s campaign data. The data was made available to the Sanders campaign after a software error.
Jeff Weaver, Sanders’ campaign manager, said that the DNC is trying to sabotage their campaign and believes that the DNC is unfairly helping the Clinton campaign.
He added that the campaign will pursue legal action if the DNC doesn’t restore their access.
Politico reports:
“Individual leaders of the DNC can support Hillary Clinton in any way they want, but they are not going to sabotage our campaign, one of the strongest grassroots campaigns in modern history,” Weaver said.
“By their action, the leadership of the Democratic National Committee is now actively attempting to undermine our campaign,” he said, calling on the DNC to release its freeze on the campaign’s data, a move that has effectively crippled Sanders’ field operation. “This is taking our campaign hostage.”
The Sanders campaign fired the person who accessed the information, data director Josh Uretsky. Uretsky appeared on CNN this morning to argue that he was not trying to access the information, but was trying to figure out “how badly the Sanders campaign’s data was exposed” by the error.
