WASHINGTON, D.C. — Billionaire Donald Trump, the clear 2016 GOP frontrunner, tells Breitbart News he is pleased that House Speaker John Boehner has announced his forthcoming resignation from Congress.

“I think it’s time,” Trump said in an exclusive interview that will air on Sirius XM Patriot Ch. 125 during Breitbart News Saturday or Breitbart News Sunday. Trump also spoke to a crowd of thousands of social conservatives at the Values Voter Summit.

“I think the establishment—the Republican establishment—has not gotten the job done,” Trump said. “There are tremendous problems, the establishment has not done it. It’s breaking down. I’m not surprised to see it. A lot of people thought it was going to happen earlier.”

Trump’s comments that he wasn’t surprised–because of Boehner’s failures and lack of leadership–that Boehner was resigning contrast with President Barack Obama’s comments, where he said in remarks in the Rose Garden on Friday that he was surprised at Boehner’s decision.

Obama called Boehner a “good man” and said that “he is a patriot…and he cares about America.”

Boehner announced on Friday that at the end of October he will resign not just from the Speakership but from Congress as well. It comes after a tumultuous past several months for the Speaker, culminating with an effort led by Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC) to remove him. In a press conference on Friday, Boehner announced that he made the decision he would resign on Friday morning—after Breitbart News again reported that he did not have enough Republican votes to remain Speaker of the House should Meadows make his motion on the floor next week.

“It’s been an honor to serve in this institution,” Boehner said in the press conference.

The next month plus in Congress, Republicans will decide on a new Speaker of the House and a whole new House GOP leadership team. Trump, the GOP frontrunner, warns Republicans to pick a competent leadership team so that it isn’t more of the same.

“It’s going to be very telling who gets it,” Trump said of the next GOP leadership team and future Speaker. “It’s going to be very competitive—and I don’t think it’s going to go to any one particular person. But whoever gets that position, it’s going to be very telling about what happens in the future.
