Police believe the suspect who allegedly murdered Delta State University professor Ethan Schmidt on September 14 was professor Shannon Lamb–one of Schmidt’s colleagues at the university.

Moreover, they believe Lamb first murdered his own girlfriend nearly 300 miles away in Gautier, Mississippi.

The Sun Herald reports that police discovered the body of dead woman at Lamb’s Gautier residence on Monday. They reported that Lamb had left the resident “in a green SUV” to drive to Delta State. The Clarion-Ledger quotes Gautier Police Detective Matthew Hoggatt saying the green SUV “[had] been located at DSU” and “Delta State police believe that vehicle belongs to their suspect.”

Breitbart News previously reported that Delta State University was on lockdown and had confirmed on fatality earlier on the 14th, which turned out to be professor Schmidt. Fox News reports that police believe Lamb allegedly “shot and killed Prof. Ethan Schmidt as Schmidt sat at his desk in a campus building.”

Lamb allegedly fled the scene and police have not yet located him. However, they do not believe he is on campus.  Cleveland, Mississippi Police Chief Charles Bingham told reporters, “At this time we don’t think he’s on campus but were not taking anything lightly.”

Delta State University campus policy “prohibits the possession of pistols, firearms or other weapons in any form by any person other than duly authorized law enforcement officials on its institutions’ premises or at any of its institutions or student functions off campus, regardless of whether such person possesses a valid permit to carry such pistols, firearms, or weapons.”
