A 35-year-old Spartanburg man reportedly snuck up behind an 80-year-old woman in the checkout line of a grocery store and knocked her to the ground in what is reminiscent of the odious “knockout game.”
Police responded to the grocery store on Monday morning. The victim told police that the man walked up behind her, pushed her, and then immediately punched her despite having no interaction before the assault.
The elderly victim also told police that the man never said a single word and simply walked away after knocking her to the ground.
Curtis Styles was identified by store employees as the the attacker. Styles’s face was also clearly visible on store surveillance cameras.
Deputies arrested Styles at his home. He was charged with third-degree assault.
