On May 30 Brinker International, owner of Chili’s brand, asked that customers no longer openly carry firearms in their restaurants.
At the same time, they said they “will continue to follow state and local laws on this issue.”
Question: What will Chili’s do in states like Arizona or Mississippi where openly carrying handguns is legal? Will they follow those state laws?
According to CNN Money, Sonic also asked that “customers refrain from bringing guns onto [their] patios or into [their] outdoor dining areas.”
Chili’s and Sonic are both reacting to open carry demonstrations that were part of a larger push for the legalization of open carry for handguns in Texas. No crimes were committed by the law-abiding citizens openly carrying their firearms.
On May 11 Breitbart News reported that Jack in the Box asked customers to leave guns at home. By May 23 there had been two robberies and a shooting at Jack in the Box restaurants because the only people who were armed were criminals.
