Maryland Montgomery County police have closed an investigation into the death of Jennifer Morbelli, a patient of abortionist LeRoy Carhart, without filing criminal charges against him.
Morbelli’s official death certificate confirms that she died in February from complications due to a 33-week abortion performed by late-term abortionist Carhart (pictured). In a recent undercover investigation by pro-life organization Live Action, Carhart compared the child in the womb to “meat in a crock-pot.”
Maryland’s chief medical examiner has declined to release Morbelli’s final autopsy results and the Maryland Mental Hygiene’s Office of Health Care Quality has released no results from an inquiry.
Breitbart News previously reported on the case of Morbelli, 29, who reportedly died from massive internal bleeding following an abortion.
A Westchester County local news report confirms that Maryland police have closed the investigation without filing criminal charges.
The report indicates that a call to the home of Morbelli’s parents, Kevin and Lisa McKenna, went unanswered, and a message left for Carhart at his Germantown, MD clinic was not immediately returned.
Morbelli’s death certificate indicates that the cause of death was Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation “due to or as a consequence of Amniotic Fluid Embolism following Medical Termination of Pregnancy.”
According to LifeNews, though “Fetal Anomalies” is also listed in the section of the certificate referring to cause of death, this entry clearly refers to the “Disease or injury that initiated events resulting in death.”
“There have been some erroneous reports that the fetal anomaly suffered by Mrs. Morbelli’s baby led to or contributed to her death, but her death certificate sets the records straight,” said Troy Newman, president of Operation Rescue and Pro-Life Nation. “It clearly was the diagnosis of her baby’s health problems that served as the catalyst to events that led Mrs. Morbelli to seek the abortion that killed her. If Mrs. Morbelli had not sought an abortion from LeRoy Carhart, she would be alive today.”
Morbelli was a kindergarten teacher who lived with her husband in Westchester County, NY, and was pregnant with their first child whom they had already named Madison Leigh. While in her 31st week of pregnancy, Morbelli learned that her baby suffered from a seizure syndrome, which led her to seek an abortion two weeks later.
Following her abortion on February 6th, Carhart left Maryland and could not be reached by Morbelli’s family when her condition deteriorated later that evening. The next day, Morbelli was taken to Shady Grove Hospital where she eventually died from massive internal bleeding. The hospital staff were also unable to reach Carhart, which complicated and delayed both diagnosis of her condition and appropriate treatment.
Operation Rescue made a formal request of the Montgomery County State Attorney for Carhart to be criminally charged for abandoning his patient.
Carhart is still under investigation by Maryland officials on the state health board, and a letter from 17 members of the Maryland House Delegates raising concern about abortion clinic safety led to state officials looking into Morbelli’s death.
The letter led to discovery of the death of another woman who died from an abortion-related death at a Baltimore clinic run by Steven Chase Brigham in a residential condominium complex. It was reported that the woman had a previous health condition that contributed to her suffering cardiac arrest at the time of the abortion.
However, according to the Baltimore Sun:
The physician who performed the abortion at Associates in OB/GYN Care LLC on North Calvert Street wasn’t certified in CPR and a defibrillator at the facility did not work, state officials said in a letter Friday to the General Assembly.
Newman reported that Brigham and another abortionist, Nicola I. Riley, were arrested and charged with murder after police raided a secret late-term abortion clinic they were illegally operating in Elkton, MD in 2010. A botched abortion that resulted in a ruptured uterus led officials to the site where 35 corpses of viable late-term babies were discovered in a freezer. The charges were dropped, however, after an expert witness for the prosecution abandoned the case under pressure from the abortion lobby.
The letter by Maryland lawmakers also questioned why a number of surgical abortion clinics operating openly in Maryland have never obtained licensure, and how the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DHMH) are addressing these clinics. The abortion facilities are:
- Metropolitan Family Planning (Gaithersburg)
- Women’s Health Care Center (Gaithersburg)
- Women’s Health Care Center (Bethesda)
- Femi-Care Surgical Center (Baltimore)
- Gynemed Surgical Center (Baltimore)
In a statement provided to Breitbart News, Lila Rose, president of Live Action, which released the undercover video of Carhart’s Nebraska clinic, said:
Late-term abortionist LeRoy Carhart was allowed to continue destroying helpless children even as multiple state investigations against him proceeded. As long as the State of Maryland operates under abortion laws this depressingly lax, it is hard to be surprised that Carhart will face no charges for the deaths of Jennifer and Madison Morbelli, whom he killed by negligence and by design, respectively. Live Action’s Inhuman investigation continues to show that our nation, with Maryland being no exception, is replete with unscrupulous abortionists operating with disregard for women’s safety and outright contempt for children’s lives. We exhort the State of Maryland to change course: open up hearings into and inspections of the horrifying abortion facilities in your jurisdiction, including Carhart’s, and stop this man and his cohorts from victimizing even more women and babies, as he did Jennifer and Madison Morbelli.
On Monday, May 20th, Live Action is organizing a Stop the Killing Rally outside the abortion facility in Germantown, MD where Dr. Leroy Carhart operates. The rally will call for true protection and empowerment of women, justice for Carhart’s botched abortion victim Jennifer Morbelli, and the revocation of Carhart’s license to practice in Maryland.
