44 Pounds of Fentanyl Seized in San Diego County

A joint operation involving U.S. Border Patrol agents and the San Diego Sheriff’s Department (SDSO) Border Crime Suppression team seized 44 pounds of fentanyl during a traffic stop Wednesday afternoon. The seizure resulted in the arrests of a 24-year-old female and her 36-year-old boyfriend, both from Fullerton, California.

1,000 Pounds of Meth Seized by Mexican Authorities

Two separate investigations by Phoenix Police Narcotics and a Joint Bureau of Indian Affairs and Drug Enforcement Agency operation resulted in the seizure of 45,000 fentanyl pills this past week. One incident occurred in west Phoenix while the second took place on an Indian reservation that sits on the U.S.-Mexico border.

31 Drug Labs Busted in Mexican Coastal State Since December 2018

The Mexican government announced that security operations led by La Secretaría de Marina or the Mexican Navy (SEMAR) located and dismantled 31 drug labs in the northern Mexican state of Sinaloa since December 1, of 2018. The state of Sinaloa is the home base for the Sinaloa Cartel also known as the Sinaloa Federation. The cartel continues to have the largest operational footprint throughout the United States and worldwide despite the capture and imprisonment of notorious cartel boss Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán.

Three Mexican state police officers assigned to a special operations group in the border state of Chihuahua were killed after being ambushed by cartel gunmen. The gunmen attacked the police officers with rifle fire and grenades on Friday. This deadly confrontation also left two other police officers wounded and five cartel gunmen dead.

Mexican Navy Seize Two Tons of Meth, Fentanyl, Heroin near Beach Resort

Elements of the Mexican Navy (SEMAR) seized just under two tons of methamphetamine, a quantity of heroin and fentanyl, and over five tons of marijuana during a naval security operation. The seizure took place off the coast of the popular tourist beach resort of Guaymas, located in the border state of Sonora. The port city of Guaymas is located approximately 260 miles south of Nogales, Arizona.

Mexican Border State Police Commander Murdered in Front of Family

Cartel gunmen murdered the police intelligence commander of Ciudad Juarez in front of his family this past Sunday while he was off-duty. The attack occurred in Nuevo Casas Grandes, located approximately 170 miles southwest of Ciudad Juarez.

Mexico Deploys More Forces to Its Southern Border to Combat Crime amid Caravans

Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador authorized the deployment of a coordinated security operation with the military, state, and municipal police along the Guatemalan border to fight the increase in violent crime coinciding with the arrival of several caravans since October 2018. “Operativo Costa Chiapas” is slated to last at least a month and will mobilize personnel by sea, air, and land.
