A hole large enough to drive vehicles through a border wall in Arizona was cut by smugglers to quickly elude apprehension by Border Patrol. The efforts proved unsuccessful as a ground radar system triggered, leading to the arrests of three smugglers and the seizures of three vehicles. In all, 54 migrants were arrested in the failed attempt near Douglas on Wednesday.

The incident happened on Saturday as agents discovered seven migrants hidden in a compartment covered by bails of hay in the trailer being pulled by the alleged smuggler.

A 15-year-old from San Antonio is charged with human smuggling after leading Texas Highway Patrol troopers on a high-speed pursuit in Frio County. The pursuit ended when the teen lost control on the wet roadway and drove up a highway overpass berm causing the pickup truck to roll over. The teen and his 12-year-old accomplice were taken into custody at the scene.

The family attempted to ford the river near the international bridge connecting to Piedras Negras on Wednesday afternoon. As the family attempted their crossing, the man’s wife and son were swept down-river. The man managed to save his son before disappearing under the current.
