Two large groups totaling nearly 300 migrants crossed the Rio Grande into Eagle Pass early Saturday despite heavy rains and thunderstorms. The migrants seemed to disregard the inclement weather and surrendered to Border Patrol agents in two separate groups. The largest group crossing the Rio Grande consisted of nearly 170 mostly Venezuelan migrants that surrendered to authorities just before daybreak.

In less than 24 hours, the CDC’s Title 42 COVID-19 expulsion authority will expire. The end of the expulsion authority will mark the final departure from any enforcement policies enacted under the Trump administration that saw migrant crossing numbers quickly drop in late 2019 and 2020. Despite the latest media blitz by the Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas assuring Americans that the Biden administration has things under control, we should all be skeptical.

Multiple local, state, and federal law enforcement entities in Mexico posted along the banks of the Rio Grande in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, in a show of force as the end of the Title 42 COVID-19 expulsion authority nears. At daybreak on Wednesday, Breitbart Texas observed the Mexican police exercise that brought migrant crossings to a complete, albeit temporary, shutdown just across the border from Eagle Pass.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced a planned immigration enforcement operation to curtail the flow of migrants crossing the border into El Paso. As nearly two thousand released migrants seek shelter and food in the heart of the city, DHS announced the plan slated to begin on Tuesday. The National Border Patrol Council sharply criticized the plan on Twitter, calling it a “sad joke – another pandering PR stunt”.

Conditions in the heart of downtown El Paso leave no doubt as to the need for Mayor Oscar Leeser’s second disaster declaration in the past six months. Breitbart Texas visited the city observing more than 1,000 migrants, many of whom lack funds to leave the border region, camped on city sidewalks and in nearby alleys.

Migrants recently released by the Biden administration erected makeshift structures for several blocks and alleyways around the Sacred Heart Church in downtown El Paso. The migrants sought shade as afternoon temperatures neared 100 degrees Fahrenheit on Wednesday. Breitbart Texas observed the migrants, unable to bathe for several days, searching for relief from the heat on the city’s sidewalks and business entryways.

Border Patrol agents apprehended more than 181,000 migrants who crossed the southwest border from Mexico in April. The apprehensions mark the third consecutive month of increased apprehensions following a brief decline in January.

Breitbart Texas spoke with a Venezuelan migrant recently released on the downtown streets of Brownsville, Texas, who provided a before and after video of a migrant encampment. The migrant confirmed reports that members of the feared Gulf Cartel attacked the encampment last week. The migrant says the cartel members were angered by the Venezuelan migrants helping to ferry others across the Rio Grande using inflatable mattresses as makeshift rafts.

DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’ claim that the border is not open is directly contradicted by the crossing of nearly 2,000 Venezuelan migrants per day into Brownsville, Texas.  The impact of this newest migrant surge along the Texas border is easily viewed from the banks of the Rio Grande and the downtown streets of Brownsville.

Texas Department of Public Safety officials confirmed the deployment of additional state troopers and National Guard resources to the Rio Grande. The response comes as more than 24,000 Venezuelan migrants crossed the border during the past two weeks.

A Texas Department of Public Safety official told Breitbart Texas that Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol agents took nearly 21,000 Venezuelan migrants into custody during a 12-day period. The spokesman compared the current Venezuelan migrant surge to that of the 2021 Haitian migrant crisis in Del Rio, Texas. During the 2021 crisis, nearly 20,000 Haitian migrants crossed into Del Rio from Mexico during a 17-day period.

The downtown streets of Brownsville, Texas, are once-again awash with recently released migrants waiting to depart the border city to other parts of the country. Breitbart Texas interviewed several dozen migrants on Friday, all from Venezuela, who spoke of the long journey to the United States and the conditions suffered while waiting in Mexico for the end of the Title 42 COVID-19 expulsion authority.

As thunderstorms struck the border region, nearly 2,000 migrants crossed the Rio Grande from Matamoros, Mexico hoping to gain release as the end of the COVID-19 Title 42 authority nears. Braving the heavy downpour on Thursday, Border Patrol agents and local authorities struggled to move the mostly Venezuelan migrants out of the weather.

The Border Patrol conducted a multi-agency water safety exercise along the southern edge of South Padre Island to address the dangers posed to migrants. Agents trained to rescue migrants attempting to enter the U.S. via the Texas Gulf Coast. Monday’s exercise involved CBP Air and Marine units; Rio Grande Valley Sector’s Border, Search, Trauma, and Rescue Team (BORSTAR); and the United States Coast Guard.

A suspected human smuggler and four migrants are clinging to life following a police pursuit near the border in South Texas that ended in a rollover crash. The driver allegedly attempted to flee from Texas Department of Public Safety troopers by driving at speeds of more than 100 miles per hour. All four migrants riding in the vehicle were ejected as the vehicle lost control and overturned along U.S. Highway 57 in Zavala County, Texas, on Wednesday afternoon.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection, for the very first time, released body-worn camera footage of a shooting incident from March 14, 2023. In the video, a Border Patrol agent is observed attempting to detain a suspected human smuggler at the conclusion of a high-speed pursuit that took place north of Sasabe, Arizona. The shooting highlights the potential for deadly consequences in the daily struggle to stop migrant smuggling along the southwest border.

Texas sheriff’s deputies found a group of 25 migrants locked inside a horse trailer following a police pursuit early Monday morning. The pursuit took place in Zavala County near the Texas border with Mexico. Zavala County Sheriff’s Office deputies attempted

Law enforcement officers in Zavala County, Texas, had their hands full with high-speed pursuits, vehicle crashes, and the associated private property damage resulting from migrant smuggling activities during the first ten days of April. The small sheriff’s department in the county located 30 miles from the Rio Grande was involved in twenty-four such cases in the first ten days of the month.

A source within U.S. Customs and Border Protection revealed to Breitbart Texas that the number of “special interest” migrants encountered by Border Patrol agents during Fiscal Year 2023 is rapidly rising. Records show migrant apprehensions this year of those from countries designated as “special interest” countries more than doubled when compared to the previous year.

Border Patrol agents received instructions from Biden administration officials to stop using the CDC Emergency COVID-19 Title 42 authority on Venezuelans apprehended along the border in some of Texas’ busiest sectors. According to a source within Customs and Border Protection, Mexico informed the Biden administration they will no longer accept Venezuelan migrants expelled under the Title 42 authority in the Del Rio and El Paso Sectors.

Border Patrol agents in the Swanton Sector apprehended approximately 700 migrants who crossed the Canadian border into the U.S. in March. The record-shattering migrant apprehensions in March represent a more than 1000 percent increase over the previous year when agents apprehended 61 migrants.

A large group of migrants found themselves stranded on an island in the Rio Grande when rising water levels and swift currents made their river crossing nearly impossible. Border Patrol agents eventually rescued the group of 141 migrants Sunday more than 20 miles south of Eagle Pass.  A Texas rancher captured video of the group of migrants hidden by trees and thick Carrizo cane on the island before the Border Patrol arrived on the scene.

Nikki Haley, the former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations and former South Carolina governor received a firsthand account of how the current border crisis is impacting residents living along the Texas border with Mexico. On Monday, Haley met with law enforcement officers, private business owners, and border residents who gave the candidate their take on the continuing border crisis. Haley, accompanied by Representative Tony Gonzales (R-TX), began the border tour with stops in Del Rio and Eagle Pass, Texas, two of the busiest areas for migrant crossings in the nation.

A Border Patrol report reviewed by Breitbart Texas shows that more than 400,000 migrants are classified as known got-aways during the first six months of Fiscal Year 2023. The report shows more than 60,000 got-aways in March.

The short-term decrease in migrant apprehensions that followed the new Biden administration immigration policy changes came to an abrupt ending in March when agents apprehended more than 161,000 migrants along the southwest border with Mexico. The nearly 25 percent jump in March follows two months where agents averaged just under 129,000 migrant apprehensions.

Law enforcement authorities thwarted a human smuggler’s attempt to transport more than 20 migrants away from the Texas border region in a utility bucket truck. The incident began early Saturday morning near La Gloria, Texas, a small community thirty miles from the Rio Grande. The vehicle burst into flames on a private ranch after crashing through a fence and coming to a rest in tall brush.

Police responding to a 911 call from inside a rail car near Uvalde, Texas, on Friday evening found two migrants dead, according to law enforcement sources on the scene. Five additional migrants were unresponsive and had to be airlifted to San Antonio-area hospitals. Five other migrants were transported by ambulance to a local hospital.

EAGLE PASS, Texas – Local police arrested a human smuggler after discovering two migrants crammed into luggage in the suspect’s vehicle. The 23-year-old suspected smuggler from San Antonio was accompanied by her five-month-old infant. The bust occurred on Saturday afternoon near the Rio Grande.

A federal court in Del Rio, Texas, sentenced an Ecuadorian national on Wednesday to 84 months in prison and five years of supervised release for possession of child sexual abuse materials. The sentencing of the 27-year-old migrant from Cuenca Provincia, Azuay, Ecuador follows a July 2021 bench trial where the court found him guilty of possessing a large trove of pornographic images involving child sexual abuse.

A source within U.S. Customs and Border Protection says a group of nearly 1,000 frustrated migrants attempted to force their way into the United States at the Paso de Norte International Bridge in El Paso. The group of mostly single adult migrants forced their way past Mexican immigration authorities and attempted to breach the United States Port of Entry by force on Sunday afternoon.

Law enforcement officers in Zavala County, Texas, report a serious uptick in organized migrant smuggling activity on county roads and highways in recent weeks. In just five days last week, Zavala County Sheriff’s Office deputies interdicted 23 separate smuggling ventures attempting to move migrants through the county to reach the interior of the United States.

Officers from Mexico’s National Institute of Migration (INM) discovered 343 migrants abandoned on a roadside in the southeastern state of Veracruz Sunday. The United States-bound migrants were found sealed in a tractor-trailer lacking the necessary documents to traverse the county.

EAGLE PASS, Texas — Congressman Tony Gonzales (R-TX) told reporters during a Monday press conference that Uvalde schools are under lockdown three to four times a week as migrant smugglers lead law enforcement on vehicle pursuits through the town. Gonzales and several other House members toured Uvalde and the region near Eagle Pass.

The injuries suffered by a Border Patrol agent after being struck by a suspected impaired motorcyclist in December is now known. The agent faces the possibility of blindness along with other serious medical issues. The agent was inspecting vehicles at a highway checkpoint near Tombstone, Arizona, at the time of the incident.

A Border Patrol agent was violently attacked as she attempted to arrest a migrant near Naco, Arizona, on Saturday. As the agent attempted to place the migrant in her vehicle, the migrant reportedly knocked the agent off her feet and began punching her repeatedly in the face. According to a source within CBP, the agent suffered a broken nose and other injuries.

A Border Patrol report obtained by the Washington Examiner reveals that agents discovered the bodies or remains of 880 migrants in Fiscal Year 2022. The total makes FY22 the deadliest year on record for migrant deaths at the southwest border.
