Texas AG OK’s Prayer in Court Over Atheist Group’s Objections

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has issued an opinion stating it does not violate the Establishment Clause to open a court session with the statement “God save the State of Texas and this Honorable Court” or to open court with a prayer, or have a volunteer chaplain program to facilitate those prayers. An atheist group from Wisconsin had complained about the practice.

CPS Twice Investigated Texas Mom Who Drowned Her Children, Hid Bodies

HOUSTON, Texas — The Houston mother who drowned her two children and then hid the bodies under a neighbor’s house appeared in court on Wednesday. Her attorney says she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia and severe depression in 2012. In April 2014, Child Protective Services (CPS) asked a judge to release the children to the mother and the court signed off on the order.

Texas Leads Legal Coalition Against Obama Transgender Bathroom Rules for Schools

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is fighting the Obama Administration’s executive dictate that Texas schools must let transgender students, or those who identify with the other sex on a given day, to use the bathroom of the opposite sex. Paxton went to court on Friday and led a 13-state coalition and argued for a preliminary injunction to stop the federal government overreach.

NY Officer Names K-9 After Five Assassinated Dallas Officers

A law enforcement officer with the Suffolk County Police Department in New York has named a police K-9 after the five police officers who were assassinated in Dallas. The officers were murdered, and seven other officers were wounded, during a Black Lives Matter protest in July.

Houston’s Simone Biles Wins Gymnastics All-Around Gold

Texan Simone Biles has won another gold medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Biles bested other competitors in the Women’s Individual All Around gymnastics competition. Biles is from Spring, Texas, which is within the Houston area.

State Bar Dismisses Same-Sex Marriage Complaint Against Texas AG

The State Bar of Texas has dismissed a grievance complaint against Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and his AG opinion interpreting the U.S. Supreme Court ruling on same-sex marriage. Democrat lawyer Steve Fischer led the effort and solicited others on Facebook to join him. A grievance filed by a gay former Democrat state legislator and current Democratic Party of Texas staffer has also not resulted in disciplinary action.

Twin Peaks Biker Hearing Puts Waco District Attorney on Hotseat

Lawyers for three of the bikers at the Twin Peaks restaurant in Waco, Texas, filed legal documents to have the district attorney recused from their criminal cases. On Monday, a hearing on their motions put the McClennan County District Attorney on the hotseat. D.A. Abel Reyna, the police chief, and other law enforcement officials, were all placed on the stand to testify during the hearing.

Armed Protest Planned After Texas County Targets Open Carry Activist

HOUSTON, Texas — Texas gun rights activists are converging on the Waller County, Texas, courthouse to protest what they are calling the “tyrannical” actions of the district attorney there. The D.A. sued the founder of Texas Carry, a gun rights organization that sent notices to 76 government entities complaining that officials are violating the law by excluding licensed to carry (LTC) holders. The Second Amendment activists will be engaging in an “open carry protest.”

DOJ Watchdog Issues Report Finding Sanctuary Cities, States Illegal

The Inspector General for the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) waited almost two months to release a report that finds that several jurisdictions are violating the law because of their sanctuary jurisdiction policies. “The Obama Administration,” says the chairman of the Subcommittee on Immigration and The National Interest, “has a plain duty to cut off law enforcement funds to any jurisdiction that violates this responsibility to ensure the deportation of criminal aliens.”

A senior store detective at Macy’s has been fired from his job after he intervened when a female customer reported that a man entered the women’s bathroom. After he was asked to leave the restroom, the man complained saying he believes he is really a female. The woman and her daughter were frightened by the man’s presence.

Veterans Brutally Attacked by Black Lives Matter, Says Army Staff Sergeant

A U.S. Army National Guard staff sergeant says he and one of his Army veteran friends were assaulted by Black Lives Matter supporters in San Antonio, Texas, Thursday Evening. “As I was getting my face stomped in and thrown through a window, they (all 4 of them) were yelling racial slurs saying how whites sucked and black lives were better,” Marc Stephen, the second victim, said on Facebook.
