In response to Satanic Black Mass Stunt At Harvard A Sacrilegious Mockery of Catholicism:
Did these people not receive President Obama’s explicit instructions, back when he was busy pretending that a YouTube video caused the Benghazi attacks? And he delivered these instructions at the United Nations – an institution I thought academics were supposed to take very seriously. Quote:
The future must not belong to those who target Coptic Christians in Egypt – it must be claimed by those in Tahrir Square who chanted “Muslims, Christians, we are one.” The future must not belong to those who bully women – it must be shaped by girls who go to school, and those who stand for a world where our daughters can live their dreams just like our sons. The future must not belong to those corrupt few who steal a country’s resources – it must be won by the students and entrepreneurs; workers and business owners who seek a broader prosperity for all people. Those are the men and women that America stands with; theirs is the vision we will support.
The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam. Yet to be credible, those who condemn that slander must also condemn the hate we see when the image of Jesus Christ is desecrated, churches are destroyed, or the Holocaust is denied. Let us condemn incitement against Sufi Muslims, and Shiite pilgrims. It is time to heed the words of Gandhi: “Intolerance is itself a form of violence and an obstacle to the growth of a true democratic spirit.” Together, we must work towards a world where we are strengthened by our differences, and not defined by them. That is what America embodies, and that is the vision we will support.
There followed several weeks of garment-rending by the Left, which was pretending to believe Obama’s horsefeathers about the Spontaneous Video Protest. We were dragged into a debate about whether the First Amendment was obsolete, the American commitment to free speech was out-of-touch, and everyone needed to watch their tongues, lest they say something offensive to religious believers. Strenuous assurances were given that this new understanding of limited speech did not apply only to the one religion noted for killing people who offend it – no, no, this was high-minded universal principle, not craven cowardice, or lazy hot air designed to keep President Obama’s Benghazi lies afloat for a few more days.
But now Satanic mockery of the Mass is just peachy at Harvard? Does that mean the future does belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam, or is that particular religion still a Very Special Case? Let’s have Harvard stage some mockeries of Islamic custom and see what happens.
