James Edwards, 15, and Chancey Luna, 16, pictured above via Facebook, were officially charged with first-degree murder and are being held without bond following their first court appearance on Tuesday for the alleged boredom killing of college baseball player Christopher Lane. A third suspect, 17-year-old Michael Jones, who gave a detailed confession of the killing to police, was charged with accessory after the fact and with driving a vehicle while a weapon was discharged.
Apparently, Jones was not satisfied with the charges brought against him in court because he reportedly stated in court, “I pulled the trigger.” The judge promptly directed Jones to be quiet and that the facts of the case will be disputed at a later date. The social media accounts of the three teenagers are rife with violent images and pictures of the group holding up gang signs.
The crime has outraged many within Lane’s homeland of Australia, a former Deputy Prime Minister is calling for tourists to boycott visiting the United States as a tactic to force the United States to act on gun control. Former Deputy Prime Minister Tim Fischer stated that, “There is a gun for almost everyAmerican.”
Memorials are being held around Oklahoma and Australia on behalf of Lane, who has been described by his college baseball coach as “an extremely well-respected teammate.”
