USA Today sports columnist Christine Brennan said on Monday that Jason Colllins will be seen in history “right next to” Jackie Robinson.
In an appearance on the BBC, Brennan said Collins’s coming out will be seen as a “big of a deal” as the first time Robinson crossed the white lines on the baseball field.
“We will see his name in history right there with Jackie Robinson, Billie Jean King,” she said.
Brennan said Collins’s announcement was an important moment in sports and “American history.”
There are many problems with comparing Collins to Robinson, but that has not stopped the mainstream press from trying to endlessly make that comparison.
