Los Angeles-area animal rights activists will gather on Black Friday to protest the sale of fur on Rodeo Drive, in what organizers call “the bloodiest street in America.” The Beverly Hills protest is just one of many events scheduled as part of a national “Fur Free Friday” campaign.
Protesters will target the high-end fur retailers that litter the posh boulevard, including Coach, Dolce and Gabbana, Armani, and others, according to NBC Los Angeles.
West Hollywood Mayor John D’Amico, who authored and enacted the nation’s first ban on fur, is slated to speak at the event. Protesters are being asked to dress all in red, according to the event’s Facebook page.
“Let the Furriers and all the merchants in Beverly Hills know that you will not support them or spend one cent in their stores as long as they sell fur or support other that do,” organizers wrote on Facebook. “West Hollywood which is literally within walking distance of Rodeo Drive has banned the sale fur [sic].”
Fur Free Friday protesters will also reportedly gather at the Glendale Galleria, Americana at Brand, the Beverly Center, and will close the day at the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica.
Event sponsors include People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), Last Chance for Animals, and In Defense of Animals.
