ICM Partners Joins Brunei Boycott, Targets Beverly Hills, Bel-Air Hotels

If agents from ICM Partners want to stay at the Beverly Hills Hotel or the Hotel Bel-Air, they better be prepared with their personal credit cards.

The boycott against the Sultan of Brunei for adopting Sharia Law continues to grow with the Hollywood agency vowing not to reimburse agents who frequent either hotel “until further notice.”

Brunei’s new penal code, which calls for the stoning to death of gays and adulterers – have already led major major philanthropic events like the Motion Picture & Television Fund’s Night Before the Oscars party, a luncheon for the Carousel of Hope Benefit, the J.J. Abrams-chaired Children’s Defense Fund gala and The Hollywood Reporter’s own Women in Entertainment breakfast to cancel bookings at the storied Pink Palace.

This comes on top of the news yesterday that other protests against the hotel have cost the property $2 million in canceled events.

A representative with the Brunei Investment Agency responded to the latest news by saying it would hurt the hotel employees.

While we recognize people’s concerns, we believe this boycott should not be directed to our hotels and dedicated employees. The economic impact of this not only affects our loyal team members but extends to the local community, our valued partners and suppliers.
