U.S. officials have now confirmed an October 30th explosion at a Syrian military base near Latakia, Syria, was an Israeli military strike. The target was a shipment of Russian missiles.
According to CNN, officials have confirmed that Israel was behind the strike which destroyed a “missile storage site” on the base. Officials said Israel was concerned that “the missiles and related equipment…might be transferred to the Lebanon-based militant group Hezbollah.”
According to the Associated Press, the missiles were of Russian origin.
The October 30 strike marks “at least” the second time Israel has struck “a shipment of missiles inside Syria this year.”
The strike is in keeping with Israel’s issuance of red lines “which could trigger Israeli military intervention.” One such red line was the delivery of “game changing” weapons to Syria.
