An email has surfaced indicating the State Dept. rejected security requests made by Benghazi consulate personnel months before the deadly attacks took place.
The email, which was circulated inside the State Dept. on May 3, 2012, indicates “the State Dept. denied a request from the security team at the Embassy of Libya to retain a DC-3 airplane in the country to better conduct their duties.”
For the record, no one is arguing that having the DC-3 would have spared Ambassador Stevens from the brutality he faced on Sept. 11. However, the rejection of the airplane does raise the question — How out of touch was the Obama admin when it came to security in Benghazi?
In other words, this seems to be another indicator that the Obama admin was not taking security in Benghazi as seriously as it should have.
These are the kinds questions Congressman Darrell Issa (R-CA) had for Sec. of State Hillary Clinton when he wrote her a letter earlier in the week, asking what measures, if any, the State Dept. had taken to be sure the level of security matched the level of threat faced by the consulate in Benghazi.
