NBC's Gregory Asks Greenwald: 'Why Shouldn't You Be Charged With a Crime?'

NBC host David Gregory of Meet the Press attacked Glenn Greenwald of The Guardian (UK) on Sunday morning over Greenwald’s reports on Edward Snowden’s National Security Agency surveillance leaks. “To the extent that you have aided and abetted Snowden,” Gregory asked, “even in his current movements, why shouldn’t you, Mr. Greenwald, be charged with a crime?”

Greenwald smacked Gregory hard, stating that it was “pretty extraordinary that anybody who would call themselves a journalist would publicly muse” about prosecution of journalists for reporting. He said he had not “aided” Snowden. Later, via Twitter, Greenwald stated, “Who needs the government to try to criminalize journalism when you have David Gregory to do it?”
