Current TV is reaching out to a failed TV show host to help its ongoing ratings woes.
Joy Behar, the far-left comedienne best known for her work on “The View,” will join the liberal “Murderer’s Row” over at Al Gore’s flailing cable channel.
Tentatively titled, “The Joy Behar Show,” the program will air weekdays at 6 p.m. EST starting in September, according to Deadline.com.
Behar recently got canned from her own show on HLN thanks, allegedly, to the channel’s zest for more courtroom-style content. But it’s hard to imagine poor ratings weren’t partly to blame. At one point her program trailed such ratings lightweights as Piers Morgan, Anderson Cooper and Nancy Grace. And why would any network sever ties with a show which held its own against the stiff cable competition?
Yet she’s being called on to help Current TV escape the ratings basement.
Of course, Behar brings more than just a dubious audience share to Gore’s network. She instantly hits Current TV’s credibility given her past behavior.
- She famously said, “Is this Constitution loving getting out of hand?”
- She flippantly compared Mitt Romney to philanderer John Edwards because they both have good heads of hair.
- She called a sitting Supreme Court Justice “demonic.”
- She called a female GOP candidate a “bitch” who would “go to hell” for a campaign commercial the woman’s team crafted. (Behar later served up a mealy-mouthed apology).
